Hybrid Animals is a super weird, but also an addictive game that for the right kind of person is going to be a real time stealer! One of the things about this game is that I am not really sure there is what you would call “a point” to it all. However, it is the kind of game you can fire up with the intention of playing for just five minutes only to be still playing it an hour later.
First of all, if you get that reference you are awesome and we can be friends. On a serious note, the whole point of Hybrid Animals is that you combine two random animals to make a hybrid one and see how it turns out. There is a large selection of animals in the game and mixing them together will have very different results. I was actually impressed with the large number of animals that are in the game and how cool or just downright creepy some of the hybrids turned out to be. Heck, you can even mix an animal with an object like a cheeseburger!
2 Become 1
When you do merge two of the animals together, it is not just their physical appearance that changes before your eyes. As well as this, each of the new hybrid animals that you create will have its own new set of stats. As a stat junky, screwing around and seeing what happens when you mix two completely different animals is something that I found to be fun. I do feel that had the game stayed in development longer this is one aspect of the game that could have been greatly improved.
So What Do You Do?
Hmm, the overall “goal” of the game is that of a sandbox. You just mess around in the lab, mixing creatures, making them fight and so on. There are some mini-games that you can do as well, but really outside of mixing the creatures together is not exactly a ton of content here for you to sink your teeth into. Hybrid Animals is the kind of game that I get the impression did have pretty grand plans, only for the game to get its development stopped before they could happen.
You can walk around the map and for the most part just do what you want to do, but as far as there being an overall goal in the game that is not really what the point of this is.
Overall, I did find myself having fun with Hybrid Animals. It is not the kind of game that is for everyone, but I do think there is something here that will keep some people coming back to it. For me, just mixing the animals together and seeing what abominations you can create is kind of fun. It is probably not going to keep your attention for weeks on end, but if you are looking for something a little weird and strange, you could do worse!
- Mixing animals together is fun
- You can mix in things other than animals
- Play the game you want to play
- It has a decently sized sandbox
- A few different game modes
- Not much of a point to it
- I think some people will get bored very quickly
